We are in charge of the visual identity (VI) for three gardens in Ogikubo—Tekigaiso Park, Otaguro Park, and Kadokawa Garden—which are now newly managed by Toraya. This summer, a new exhibition building designed by Kengo Kuma
and Associates will open next to Tekigaiso.
As a team based in Ogikubo and Nishi-Ogikubo, it was an exciting experience to be involved with
these historic gardens in our local neighborhood.
The logo is designed to look like three gardens,
with script letters that make you feel like you can walk around.
DESIGNTIDE TOKYO was an exhibition held from 2005 to 2012 that showcased Tokyo’s design scene to the world, and served as a platform for many internationally active designers. After more than a decade, the project was revived in 2024 with a new logo and renewed identity.
DESIGN TIDE = “A major movement in design.” Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. Rather than focusing on surface-level phenomena of the Earth, we created graphics inspired by the underlying forces that drive these movements — with the theme of “tide,” expressing the intention to generate significant change through deep, foundational thinking.
In today’s society, where social media shapes trends and shared sentiments, the new graphic identity aims to suggest that the small ripples created by individual actions and sensitivities can eventually lead to major transformations — a tide of change.
We designed a visual system that responds interactively to the actions of individuals (participants), creating larger movements in response. Just like the flow of tides influenced by the moon’s gravity, every graphic element in the new visual identity (VI) shifts dynamically with user interaction — resulting in a visual experience that is both impactful and responsive.
